What is showjumping?

Showjumping is one of three equestrian sports at the Olympic Games, the others being eventing and dressage. In showjumping, athletes ride a horse over a set of jumps in numerical order, scoring penalties (also known as “faults”) if they knock down any jumps or the horse refuses to go over a jump. The winner is generally the athlete with the lowest score in the fastest time. It is a test of a rider’s skill and a horse’s ability. The course in a showjumping competition is designed to test both the horse and the rider, with a variety of obstacles ranging from barriers to water ditches.

The art behind the sport

Show jumping stands as a thrilling equestrian pursuit, embodying the symbiotic relationship between horse and rider as they conquer a variety of obstacles. From verticals to water jumps and all in between, the breadth of challenges in show jumping serves as a genuine measure of both skill and athleticism. Recognized as one of the most exhilarating equestrian pursuits, seamlessly blends the artistry of horsemanship with the thrill of overcoming diverse obstacles. This sport requires riders and their equine companions to demonstrate remarkable agility, precision, and teamwork while navigating a course replete with varied jumps and challenges.

Serving as a genuine evaluation of a horse’s athleticism and a rider’s proficiency, it places a premium on the strong connection between the horse and its rider.
